What’s the best luau in Waikiki?

So who has a nice luau- show and meal- in Waikiki- that won’t break the bank for a young couple who really can’t afford to even be in Hawaii? This would be the one “event” they would be doing other then the freebie stuff available.

Hi Kelly,

Unfortunately, there’s only one luau in Waikiki — the Royal Hawaiian Luau located on the grounds of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The experience is very good, and the setting is even better as the luau boasts having Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach as their backdrop. Prices start at around $97.00 for adults, but discounts are available through their website. For more information, please visit  http://www.royal-hawaiian.com/de_luau.htm

Now, if you’re willing to look outside of Waikiki, there are three more luaus to choose from. I wouldn’t worry about transportation as these companies provide complimentary transportation to and from their show location. Here’s the run-down to help you decide:

Germaine’s Luau: My mom and my brother love going to Germaine’s Luau whenever they feel up for it. The setting is very relaxed, and the show itself is pretty comparable to all other luaus on the island. They’re also one of the more affordable ones without sacrificing food quality or the quality of the experience. Prices start at around $65.00 per adult. For more info, visit http://www.germainesluau.com.

Paradise Cove Luau: If you ask any activity agent in Waikiki about luaus, chances are they’ll recommend Paradise Cove. Like Germaine’s Luau, this show is located on the western shores of the island. The thing that sets Paradise Cove Luau apart from the previously mentioned shows is that they have activities for guests prior to the show itself — from ancient Hawaiian games to learning about ancient fishing techniques, arts, and crafts, to witnessing a colorful Hawaiian procession. The show itself is quite entertaining; I’m sure you’ll love every minute of it should you choose to see this show. Prices start at $73.00 per adult. For more information, please visit http://www.paradisecovehawaii.com/.

Polynesian Cultural Center Luau: Out of all the luaus available on the island, the Polynesian Cultural Center Luau is the only one that’s not held on the beach. However, this does not take away anything from the experience, as the Polynesian Cultural Center is a must-visit attraction if you really want to experience Polynesian culture. What they’ve done is they’ve combined admission with a luau at night — complete with luau buffet and a spectacular show. Prices start at $80.00 per adult, and if you book now, you receive a 10% discount just for filling out their survey. For more information, visit http://www.polynesia.com/ticketing/alli-luau.html.

which of the luaus’s you have mentioned above is closed to the Doubletree hotel we are staying at? I think it is alamouna street or something, where the hotel is located near waikiki. So, part of deciding which luau is best, is of course, knowing which one is closest to our hotel.

[…] close to Kalakaua Avenue, the closest luau from your hotel is the Royal Hawaiian Luau, as we previously mentioned in a different post.  And as we said in that post, the Royal Hawaiian Luau is the only luau in Waikiki; there are no […]
