Is a rental car generally recommended in Waikiki?

Is a rental car generally recommended in Waikiki?  We’re staying at the ResortQuest Waikiki Sunset for a week.  We have 2 families with small children.  We heard parking around Waikiki (outside our hotel) is expensive and hard to find.  Is the trolley/bus/walking a viable option if we plan to spend most of our time in the Waikiki area?

Parking around Waikiki is generally expensive and hard to find. However, the ResortQuest Waikiki Sunset does offer covered parking for guests with rental cars. The rate is $11.00 per day with unlimited in-and-out privileges. You can pre-pay this or have it billed to your room if you wish. For more information about this, call ResortQuest Waikiki Sunset at 1-800-445-6633.
With that being said, I would recommend getting a rental car instead of other forms of transportation (especially when you’re traveling with two families). The parking rate plus your daily rental rate is probably comparable to the total you’re going to get if you’re going to take the Waikiki Trolley, and relieves you from the hassle you might go through when taking the bus.

Overall, getting a rental car is worth the time, effort, and headaches of going on mass transportation services such as the Waikiki Trolley or The Bus.

And if your kids do want to ride the trolley, you can just go around Waikiki on their Pink Line for $2.00 per person, one-way.
