What’s the most popular beach in Hawaii?
The most popular beach in Hawaii is, of course, Waikiki Beach. No other beach in the State gets more exposure, more sun bathers, more crowds and more postcards than this beach, which has arguably helped make Waikiki the top tourist destination in Hawaii (in addition to Diamond Head, of course).
Waikiki Beach isn’t just for tourists, by the way. You can find local surfers catching a wave or two whenever the waves are good, with the occasional boogie-boarders as well.
There are places where you can rent a surf board or a boogie board, and bars such as Duke’s Waikiki and The Beach Bar at Sheraton Moana Surfrider Hotel, to name a few.
The world-famous Duke Kahanamoku Statue makes Waikiki Beach its home too. The City and County of Honolulu has a live camera pointed at the statue, 24 hours a day. Check it out to catch a glimpse of what’s happening. Chances are, you’ll see a few people posing by the statue, as it (together with the beach itself) makes a beautiful backdrop.
Waikiki Beach is also the venue for Sunset on the Beach, which is an event with free live music and a free movie shown on 30-foot screens.
