Is it better to stay in a hotel near the airport? That depends. It’s good if you’re just staying for the night for a flight the next morning (obviously). Otherwise, it would be best if you stay at a hotel that’s closer to Downtown Honolulu or in Waikiki. The airport area is far from Waikiki (where a lot of the action happens) and farther from Honolulu’s popular tourist attractions and activities (with the exception of a few places, of course). If you’re not planning on renting a car, chances are you’ll have to catch a cab or get on theBus to get to where you want to go.
